Trail Report: Phlegar Estate (Woodside Revisted)

The Phlegar estate is a couple of trails accessed from Huddart Park near Woodside, CA. Access to the park costs $6, which isn’t bad considering how much time you could spend having fun in the park. The park itself is open only to horses and hikers (trail runners), so bicycles are strictly off-limits.

We only had time enough for a taste of the trails, but what we saw was an excellent, cool hike.

With more time, we hope to return and see more of the park and estate. This is also the location of my Woodside 50km Ultramarathon, and I can say the place looks much better without the torrential rains.

The rest of the trail run was split into two parts – some yesterday, and some today. Disappointingly, I forgot to turn the GPS on for today’s run, so I only have the trail marks from yesterday’s run/hike with my girl. The elevation change was brutal.

@PCTR Race: Woodside 50km Ultramarathon

On March 26, 2011, Pacific Coast Trail Runs (@pctr) hosted the Woodside Trail Run, including distances from 10km to 50km. My best friend, Nat, joined me for her first ever Ultra-marathon, and she couldn’t have picked worse weather to attempt her first 50km (31.07mile) distance. The weather in San Francisco had been raining for about a week, and on the day of the race the weather was supposed to improve – after we finished the race.
