Race Recap: 2012 US Half Marathon

img_7419 San Francisco’s US Half Marathon (The “Other” Half as they call it, as there is also a US Half in November) has a few major pluses and many minor minuses, but overall the race can’t be beat for beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge and downtown San Francisco. In fact, in many ways, this race is far superior to the well-known San Francisco Marathon and 1/2 Marathon.

First plus: Location. You can’t beat running over the Golden Gate Bridge and through Crissy Park for wonderful and exciting views. The view alone keeps your feet moving.

Race Recap: Rome Italy Marathon

Beginning and ending at the “Colleseo”, there is no other marathon in the world than runs through magnificent history like the Rome, Italy Marathon. March 18, 2012 was the 18th running of the Rome Marathon and my international race of the year. It was a race that shattered perceptions and included lots of cobblestones.

This race was not one for a PR, but it was a PF for My Girl. Plagued by knee and hip issues (coming from, we believe, a weak core), training had not gone exactly as planned for her. In fact, there was even some doubt prior to race as to whether or not she would be able to start. Prior to the race, she had never run more than 13.1 miles. Would she finish?

Marathon Motivation in Italy

At this moment, my fiance’ and I are headed to Europe and eventually Rome, Italy to run the Rome Marathon.

Before this trip, my fiance’ never had even the slightest desire to do something “so crazy.” She would never have dreamed of doing something like this, and in fact, would have thought: “That’s impossible!” just 15 weeks ago.

But then I bribed her. I told her about the beauty and history of Rome, how many calories you burn while running, how many fountains we’d see, how many calories we’d burn running, the cobblestone streets we’d be running on, the calories we’d burn, the time we’d spend together exploring trails around the San Francisco area while training for the marathon, and the fact we’d be going to Rome Italy and getting the best walking tour ever, and she finally succumbed to the bribery, despite the fact she *hated* anything athletic.

How to Fix RnR Las Vegas

Although the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in Las Vegas was, despite any positive spin attempted by Competitor Group, a fiasco and #EpicFail,  I didn’t feel right just leaving a negative review and moving on. One runner described the marathon as “… being like you broke up with a long-term girlfriend. For days you can’t stop talking about it to anyone who will listen because your expectations were so high for the relationship.”

But there is hope for the RnR Las Vegas. It will depend on what actions they take next. If anyone has any further suggestions, leave them in the comments and I’d like to hear it. Maybe Competitor Group will listen. Their actions in the coming days will show just how serious they are, and just how much they actually listen to their customers. Then, as consumers, we can decide whether or not we wish to support the organization in the future. I would like to do that, but it will depend on their actions going forward. So how to fix Las Vegas RnR Marathon? Here is how I would do it:
