There is a small… very small… chance we’re in this movie in the background. During the filming of this movie, we ran next to one of the runners for a good portion of the Rome Marathon. Sometimes, we were in front, sometimes we were behind… Either way, a chance to be on film is a chance I suppose. Certainly, the cameraman kept filming My Girl, which she didn’t like, but I told her it meant I might be in the shot, too, and that was pretty cool. Either way, it will be a joy to watch!
Beginning and ending at the “Colleseo”, there is no other marathon in the world than runs through magnificent history like the Rome, Italy Marathon. March 18, 2012 was the 18th running of the Rome Marathon and my international race of the year. It was a race that shattered perceptions and included lots of cobblestones.
This race was not one for a PR, but it was a PF for My Girl. Plagued by knee and hip issues (coming from, we believe, a weak core), training had not gone exactly as planned for her. In fact, there was even some doubt prior to race as to whether or not she would be able to start. Prior to the race, she had never run more than 13.1 miles. Would she finish?
Okay, they say fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I should have followed that when I ordered something from the organizers of the RnR Las Vegas Marathon. Foolish me. My blog on the disaster that was the RnR Marathon was the most popular post here.
But what happened just recently? How did they do badly again?
Another blogger did some research on the source of water used at major marathons. The CEO of Competitor group said, in reference to fire hydrant water used in marathons, “ “Every big event in the country does that, and even some smaller ones.”
So Running at the Speed of Me contacted major marathons to find out if that was true. Turns out it isn’t.
Although the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in Las Vegas was, despite any positive spin attempted by Competitor Group, a fiasco and #EpicFail, I didn’t feel right just leaving a negative review and moving on. One runner described the marathon as “… being like you broke up with a long-term girlfriend. For days you can’t stop talking about it to anyone who will listen because your expectations were so high for the relationship.”
But there is hope for the RnR Las Vegas. It will depend on what actions they take next. If anyone has any further suggestions, leave them in the comments and I’d like to hear it. Maybe Competitor Group will listen. Their actions in the coming days will show just how serious they are, and just how much they actually listen to their customers. Then, as consumers, we can decide whether or not we wish to support the organization in the future. I would like to do that, but it will depend on their actions going forward.
